How to score a tennis match

Last updated 5 October 2026

Pick the format, lock the deuce rule, then tap points. This guide walks through Tennismatic on iPhone and Apple Watch without inventing rules the app does not implement.

The short version. Choose singles or doubles, advantage or no-ad, one set or best of three, and who serves. Tap the winning side each point. Undo fixes mistakes. Offline works. Match scoring requires Tennismatic Pro.

Match setup checklist

Agree these before the first serve:

Formats Tennismatic supports

Verified in the scoring engine and watch setup:

Competition-specific appendices can differ. If you are playing a sanctioned event, follow that event’s sheet — then mirror those choices in setup.

Recording points

Tap the side that wins the rally. At deuce, keep recording individual points; Tennismatic applies advantage or no-ad automatically. At 6–6, the configured tiebreak begins without a separate mode switch.

Service rotation, elapsed time, and match completion are handled by the engine. You can restore an interrupted match instead of starting from scratch.

Undo without resetting the match

One undo steps back a single point. Repeat as needed. On Apple Watch, open Match Controls for Undo when the wrong side was tapped.

Phone, Watch, offline, sync

Score on iPhone or Apple Watch. When both are connected, either may hold scoring authority; the other can mirror. An older state will not overwrite a newer terminal result.

Scoring and history work offline. Optional Sign in with Apple syncs history through the Tennismatic backend when you want the same record on another device.

Download vs scoring access

Tennismatic is free to download on the App Store. Match scoring requires Tennismatic Pro (weekly subscription or lifetime unlock). Local prices and any eligible introductory offer are shown by the App Store before you confirm — this site does not quote a fixed price.

No sign-up wall to browse the app; scoring a match still needs Tennismatic Pro.

Walk on with the format already set

Configure once in Tennismatic, then keep your eyes on the ball instead of the arithmetic.
